I am a Christian wife of 17 years and a homeschooling mom. I try to bring a variety of educational opportunities to our homeschool in order to introduce my boys to new ideas and experiences. Our family of five lives on the beautiful Jersey Shore and we also spend time at our home away from home in the Pennsylvania Wilds. I am often asked why do we homeschool and how do we do it. This website is my way of expressing these answers and of encouraging others as well. I do not consider homeschooling something that we do but more I think of homeschooling as who we are as a family. Nor am I an expert but rather a mom on a mission to provide an excellent education to my children.
I am currently completing my degree online and will soon have a Bachelors of Biblical Studies with a concentration in Christian Education. Within the coming year I plan on continuing my education to earn a Masters in Christian Education. I am a gradute of Penn Foster with a career diploma in art and a member of the Christian Educators Association.
Our homeschool revolves around biblical principles and we try as a family to instill these values and beliefs in our children through bibically based curriculum, family devotions and numerous church functions such as sunday school, junior church, youth bell choir and in community service with our local food pantry. Just as important as acadmics we try to teach the children to live by the Golden Rule, to consider the question What Would Jesus Do, and to live our lives according to what we believe, showing Christ's love to others and to each other.
This homeschooling idea began when our oldest son, just three years old at the time, was enrolled in a pre-school. During his toddler and preschool years we enjoyed reading together, learning the basics at home and altogether missed him while he was at school. We began to ask ourselves if these activities really had to be done strictly in a school setting. Did people school at home and if so how? We shortly thereafter met several families in our area who were homeschooling their children. The idea intrigued us and after we celebrated our sons preschool "graduation" we embarked on our homeschooling journey. That was Pre-K and now our son is in the eighth grade. We have experienced the highs and lows of homeschooling. The days of joys and wonder and the days of tears and frustration. The good have outweighed bad. We have our moments of bickering amongst the children. People will say to me, I could never homeschool, I don't have that kind of patience. I am not always that patient. Neither is the school teacher one hundred percent patient. We have found ways to incoporate the schooling into our home and lives and at the end of the day truly do enjoy the process of living and learning together.
Thank you for visiting. I hope that this site will be a source of encouragement, ideas and information and that you will visit often.
